Tuesdays, 11:00am to 3:00pm
Open etching sessions are Tuesdays at midday, 11-3. There is a limit of 6 participants per session. Ink, newsprint, and acid are supplied by the shop, and printing paper is available for purchase. An experienced printmaker monitors the session and is on hand to teach artists new to the medium.
Single sessions are $30, or sign up for four for $100. Write back to sign up! Tuition includes all materials except printmaking paper and zinc or copper plate, which are for sale in shop.
Etching is an intaglio process. The etched plate is made of zinc or copper. The artist draws through a waxy substance coating the plate to reveal the metal underneath, then etches the plate in acid. The plate is then cleaned and ink rubbed into it. The ink sits in the recessed etched areas, and the surface remains clean. The plate is then passed through a press with paper placed over it, transferring the ink from the plate to the paper.
Please only sign up when you know you are able to attend. We do not refund for cancellations on this workshop.
